My Recipe Companion ("we", "our", or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our iOS application and website at myrecipecompanion.com.
By using My Recipe Companion, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
Information We Collect
What we collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide and improve the service:
- Account information — your email address and display name when you create an account, or your Apple ID when you sign in with Apple.
- Recipe data — recipes you save, folders you create, and videos you import. This data is stored on our servers so it syncs across your devices.
- Usage data — basic analytics such as app crashes and feature usage, collected in aggregate to improve the app. We do not build individual profiles from this data.
- Device information — iOS version and device model, used for troubleshooting and compatibility.
We do not collect location data, contacts, microphone input, or camera data.
How We Use It
How your information is used
- To authenticate you and sync your recipes across devices.
- To process video URLs you share and extract recipe content.
- To respond to support requests you send us.
- To improve app stability and performance using aggregated analytics.
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes.
Third-Party Services
Services we use
My Recipe Companion uses the following third-party services to operate:
- Supabase — authentication and database storage. Your account data and recipes are stored on Supabase infrastructure. See Supabase's Privacy Policy.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — our backend processing infrastructure for video extraction and storage. See AWS's Privacy Notice.
- Google Gemini AI — AI model used to analyse cooking videos and extract recipe content. When you import a video, the video file is sent to Google's Gemini API for processing. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Apple Sign In — optional authentication method. When used, Apple may share a name and email with us per their guidelines.
These providers process data solely to deliver the service and are bound by their own privacy policies.
Data Retention
How long we keep your data
We retain your account and recipe data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account through the app, all associated data — including your recipes, folders, and account information — is permanently deleted from our systems within 30 days.
Your Rights
Control over your data
You have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Delete — delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Delete Account within the app.
- Correct — update your display name at any time from Settings.
- Opt out — contact us to opt out of any analytics collection.

Children
Children's privacy
My Recipe Companion is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Security
How we protect your data
All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Account authentication is handled by Supabase, which uses industry-standard security practices including bcrypt password hashing and JWT-based session tokens. We never store plaintext passwords.
Changes
Updates to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll update the effective date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we'll notify you within the app. Continued use of My Recipe Companion after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
